Who are we?

About Danesborough Chorus

We're a choral society of over 100 members founded in 1975. We enjoy performing to a high standard accompanied by professionals: conductor, repetiteur, orchestra, instrumentalists and soloists.

Under the baton of Ian Smith, Danesborough Chorus is one of the finest amateur choral societies in the area. We aim to perform a varied repertoire, from standard to newly commissioned works. We're fortunate to have the services of John Witchell as accompanist at our rehearsals. John is also an able and experienced choirmaster as well as an accomplished organ soloist.

Danesborough Chorus performs three concerts each year, usually on the last Saturdays in March and June; and in November or December.

Twice a year we perform in St. Mary's Church, Woburn, where the acoustic is perfect for the works we perform.

Membership peaks at around 110 and new members are always welcome, particularly male voices! In our 40 years we've performed a great variety of works.

We're an amateur choir but professionals are always welcome to sing with us. Just expect to pay a subscription like everyone else!

Amateur means 'for the love of it', not mean second rate. We're keen to attract singers who are eager to learn as well as those already musically educated or experienced in choral singing.

We employ professional musicians to teach us both in rehearsal and in performance. We're blessed with a long-serving musical director, Ian Smith, and talented professional pianists to accompany our rehearsals and, occasionally, to direct rehearsals and perform in concerts with us. Meet members of the choir

Below, a member from each section (soprano, tenor, alto and bass) gives you some idea why they joined, their backgrounds, tastes in music and what they get from their membership - an unbelievably small £4 a week!

For that you get roughly 30 weeks of rehearsals, three (or more) days of concert performances with professional soloists and orchestra - plus all the social interaction that comes with membership, including our own fun events.
